A husband and wife shop in Stony Plain since 2022.
Open until 7pm Wednesday and Friday.
Most repair shops are built to make money off your confusion. We built ours the opposite way.
Your device goes straight onto the bench for proper diagnosis. Then we call you before you spend a single dollar, and lay out the real options: a straight repair quote, deeper paid work if needed, or the plain truth that it is not worth fixing.
No backend traps. No surprise charges. No pressure. Patrick and Marlena run this shop themselves, so you are always dealing with an owner.
Not Sure It’s Worth Fixing?
An honest answer before you spend money — including when the answer is “don’t fix this.”
Call/Text NowTell us what your computer is doing.
If any of these match, it's worth a free triage call. We'll tell you whether to bring it in.
From problem to plan in four steps.
Start free. Diagnose properly. Repair only after you approve.
Free triage
Call, text, walk in, or book online. We'll help decide if it's worth bringing in.
We call before any money
A quote by phone before any paid step — either further diagnosis or the fix.
Quote before repair
Flat-rate, no surprises. Repair only begins after you approve.
You decide
Repair, upgrade, replace, or walk away. The right answer — not the biggest invoice.
Asking us is free. So is looking at it.
Call, text, or come by and tell us what it is doing. We will tell you what we think, and if it needs to come in we look at it for nothing and phone you with a flat price before anything costs you a dollar. If you do not like the number, you take it home and you owe us nothing.
Where a repair lands depends on how much work it actually takes. A slow computer that needs a clean-up is not the same job as a machine buried in malware, even though they start out looking the same. We work that out before we quote you, not after.
Small things cost less. If it turns out to be a five minute fix, we will say so and charge you less. We are not going to bill you $179 to sort out an email password.
Reinstalls, hardware repairs, and drive replacements include the parts quoted separately. Data recovery, business systems, and network work are quoted case by case.
Once you approve a price, that price does not move.
Built small on purpose. So your computer gets the time the problem actually needs.
We created Computer Wall because we genuinely love helping people get their computers working again. That is why we built it small and local on purpose, not to grow into the next big chain, but to give Stony Plain and Spruce Grove a shop where the person who answers the phone is the person doing the work.
Soft Effects Inc. started in 1986. Computer Wall is what it became.
Dale Evjen incorporated Soft Effects in 1986 and moved it home to Stony Plain in 1994, where he ran it for the next 28 years. Onsite service was his specialty. Clients drove out from Edmonton for decades because he was worth the drive.
When Dale passed away in 2022, his family chose us to carry it on. Same town, a shop on our own property, the same model he proved worked, and the same way of talking to people who are worried about their computer.
Forty years of this work. Thirty-two of them from a home in Stony Plain. The name on the door is the only thing that changed.
What you’re quoted is what you pay.
No surprise charges. No padded process. No pressure to say yes to work you don’t need. Every paid step is quoted by phone first, and you approve it before any money changes hands. The honest answer is the only one we will give you.
No question is dumb. Bring it in.
Slow laptop, mystery error, a printer that won’t connect, or "something just feels off." Bring it in. We have the time to listen and the patience to explain. You will not be rushed out the door, and no question is too basic.
Ten years of repairs, and a degree behind the bench.
Seven years on the bench at CD Computers, a busy Spruce Grove counter shop, plus three years running Computer Wall, plus a formal degree in Network Systems Administration. Years of high-volume bench work is where you see every make, every failure, and every strange intermittent fault that only shows up when nobody is watching. That is where the hands were trained.
Your money goes from you to us. That is the whole chain.
There is no head office taking a cut, no dispatcher, and no call centre between you and the person doing the work. The person who answers your call lives here. The person who repairs your computer lives here. When you pay us, you are paying the people who did the work.
This shop is how we feed our family, which is the reason we will not rush your machine or sell you something you do not need. Our name is the only thing this business runs on. There is no salary here that arrives whether your repair holds or not.
Everything we help with.
Same path on every job: start with free triage, get an honest answer about whether to fix it, and only pay for work you approve.
Find out what's actually wrong with your desktop, all-in-one, or custom build — and whether it's worth fixing — before any repair work begins.
Cracked screen, charging issue, sticky keys, swollen battery? Get a clear diagnosis and an honest answer about whether to repair or replace.
iPad, Surface, Samsung Galaxy Tab — cracked screen, swollen battery, won't turn on, software you can't unstick.
Find out whether your computer needs cleanup, an upgrade, repair, or replacement.
Get years more useful life out of an aging machine — when an upgrade actually makes sense.
Real cleanup — what got in, how it got in, and what to do so it doesn't come back.
Get your files back from a failing drive — and find out what's recoverable before any paid recovery work begins.
Move into your new machine cleanly — files, email, browser, printers, and apps all working before you take it home.
Real local IT for Parkland County — workstations, networks, printers, email, and backups, without long-term contracts.
Onsite setup, networking, and business workstations, by appointment, scheduled outside walk-in hours.
Wi-Fi that reaches every room and a network that actually works the way it should.
The right next step comes first. The bill comes only after you say yes.

What we promise
- Free initial look on every drop-off
- A phone call before any paid step
- A quote for further diagnosis if your case needs it — and only if it’s worth it
- A flat-rate quote for the fix — before any repair work begins
- Plain-English explanation of what’s wrong, in writing
- Repair, upgrade, replace — or walk away
- 90-day guarantee on every approved repair
The hard cases are the ones we like.
Unusual hardware, end-of-life laptops, intermittent symptoms nobody can reproduce, rare boards, custom builds, machines five years past warranty. The repairs that do not have a YouTube tutorial are the ones we like the most. If you were told "it can't be fixed," "you should just replace it," or "your data is gone," bring it here.
Because we work small, we can take the time a tough diagnosis actually needs. That is where the model pays off in something the customer feels: a real answer instead of a guess.
- "Won't power on" with no obvious cause
- Intermittent crashes nobody else can reproduce
- Older or end-of-life hardware others won't touch
- Symptoms that only show up at the worst moments
- Custom-built rigs and uncommon configurations
- Repairs another shop returned unsolved
